The process of determining the best place to put that one points of talent and the spells I could buy was a major decision. I remember going back to an expansion later on and finding that the only agency I had left after my character's evolution was where I could spend one talent per... 10, 15? 15 levels. Skills were learned automatically and there was not an immediate rush from each individual advancement. This was a sad fact. But, it's okay for me.

I don't disagree with their reasoning on trying to change the tree of talent (too common and most people simply checked out a build and chose that one, and what they were saying was things like 1% of talent increases damage to targets, aren't "exciting") but then they just substituted them with a few choices which... ended in being cookie-cutter and/or required to have the spec be pleasant and made it feel more restrictive.
